Parts of a Computer and Their Functions

Everybody uses a computer but they do not know the parts of a computer and their function. it is important to know it, because if our computer gets broken, we can know which parts that do not work.

1. Power Supply
A Power supply Unit or we can call "PSU" is a component that converts main AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer

2. CPU
Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output operation specified by the instructions. So, we can call CPU is the brain of Computer ^_^

3. RAM or Memory
Random Access Memory or RAM is a hardware of computer which used to save information. A bigger RAM will make a computer faster.

4. Chipset
Chipset is a set of electronic components in an integrated circuit which manages the data flow between the processor, memory and peripherals. It is usually found on the motherboard.

5. VGA
A Video Graphics Array (VGA) Card is utilized that processed and generated an output image feed to a computer monitor or display. It links with a computer’s motherboard, a video card contains a cooling mechanism, processing unit, connections to a display device, and its own memory.

6. ROM
Read Only Memory (ROM) can be defined as a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices.

7. CMOS

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) is the term usually used to describe the small amount of memory on a computer motherboard which stores the BIOS settings. Some of these BIOS settings include the system time and date as well as hardware settings.

8. BUS

BUS is a communication system which can transfers data between components inside a computer, or between computers. This expression covers all related hardware components (wire, optical fiber, etc.) and software, including communication protocols.

9. Sound Card

A sound card is an internal expansion card that provides input and output of audio signals to and from a computer. You can add other external sound card if you need.

10. Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

A hard disk drive (HDD) is a data storage device that uses magnetic storage to save digital information

11. Optical Disc Drive (ODD)

Optical disc drive (ODD) is a disk drive which uses laser light or electromagnetic waves inside or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs.

12. Motherboard
Motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. It helps communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and provides connectors for other peripherals.

13. Keyboard
We use keyboard as an input to communicate with computer. You can type and enter order to computer by using keyboard.

14. Mouse
Mouse has same function with keyboard. Mouse is an important device to navigate when you operate computer. By using mouse, we can move pointer and choose what we want to click.

15. Monitor
The monitor is the device of computer hardware which performs the video and graphics information generated by the computer through the video card.
